How heavy is a rhinoceros?
Rhinos are among the heaviest land animals after the elephant. A large white rhino can reach about 2,300 kg (2.3 tonnes) — heavier than most family cars.
Is a rhino’s skin really that tough?
The hide is thick — around 2.5 cm in places — and looks like plated armour, but it is surprisingly sensitive and burns easily in the sun. That is why rhinos love a mud wallow: a coat of dried mud shields them from sunburn and biting insects.
