Almost. A shark’s skeleton is built from cartilage rather than bone, which is why sharks and rays are classed separately from the bony fish. Their teeth do keep coming back: a single shark can work its way through thousands of teeth in a lifetime.
What does the whale shark eat?
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world — over 12 metres (40 ft) long — yet it feeds by taking in great mouthfuls of seawater and filtering out plankton and small fish. It is famously placid, and divers sometimes swim alongside one.
How dangerous is the great white shark?
The great white, made famous by the film Jaws, can reach around 6 metres (20 ft), but it does not go looking for people. Most bites are thought to be cases of mistaken identity, as humans are not part of its usual diet, and the species is now protected in many countries.
