What is worth knowing about airliners?
Airliners cruise around ten thousand metres up, where the air is thin enough that a jet can hold roughly nine hundred kilometres an hour without burning through its fuel. The aircraft drawn here is a twin-engine narrow-body, the workhorse of short and medium routes. In Japan those routes compete directly with the rail network, so many domestic trips that would be a flight elsewhere are made by train instead.

Yes. Travel is one of the easiest subjects to open a conversation with, because a first flight or a long-awaited trip tends to stay vivid. Start with the sky: a pale blue laid down lightly, left almost white just behind the aircraft, makes the jet lift off the page. Leave the fuselage mostly white and run one strong colour along the side as a stripe — that single line is what makes it look like a real airline. Keep the clouds barely tinted and press hardest on the engines and the tail.
