What kind of plant is the pumpkin?
Pumpkin is a gourd harvested at its best from July to September in Japan, with a second wave of popularity in October for Halloween. It is a good source of vitamins A, C and E. In Japan there is also a long-standing custom of eating pumpkin on the winter solstice.

A pumpkin’s skin runs from green to deep orange and is marked by vertical ribs, so shifting your orange slightly from rib to rib gives the shell a rounded look. For a classic jack-o’-lantern, color the shell orange and leave the carved eyes and mouth dark so the faces stand out.
