What is a Christmas wreath?
A wreath is a ring of evergreen branches hung on the door at Christmas, and the unbroken circle has long been read as a wish for good things to keep coming round. In Japan wreaths are a familiar December decoration in shops and doorways, and setting Santa’s face inside the ring — as in this drawing — is a playful twist on that shape.
