Dolphin Coloring Page — Easy Free Printable for Young Children

A single dolphin leaping clear of the water, drawn with thick outlines and almost no detail inside them. There is very little to stay within, which makes it a sensible first coloring page for a two- or three-year-old. Free to download and print at home or in a classroom, or to enlarge for a wall display.

🐬 What kind of animal is a dolphin?

Dolphins are mammals rather than fish: they breathe air and nurse their young. They live in groups and keep in touch with whistles and clicks — each animal appears to have its own signature whistle — and they leap clear of the surface for reasons researchers still argue over. They are the headline act at aquariums across Japan.

🐬 How fast can a dolphin swim?

Bottlenose dolphins cruise far more slowly than most people expect and save their speed for short bursts, usually put at something like 30 to 40 km/h. A streamlined body and a powerful tail fluke do the work, and the same push is what sends them several metres above the surface.

🎨 What colors should we use?

Dolphins are grey or blue-grey on the back and pale, almost white, underneath. A bright light blue gives a friendly, cartoon-like animal; grey looks closer to the real thing. Layering shades of blue behind it turns the empty space into open water.
