What kind of plant is the pumpkin behind the lantern?

Pumpkins are at their best from July to September, with a second peak in October for Halloween. They are a good source of vitamins A, C and E. In Japan there is also a custom of eating pumpkin on the winter solstice (toji).

Any tips for a neat, polished result?

The rind is marked by deep ribs running from stem to base and shades from green through to orange, while the flesh inside is a warm orange. For a Halloween jack-o’-lantern, orange is the classic choice.
